Plans are now well advanced for the 3rd golf day in memory of James Stephenson which will be held at Old Thorns on Friday 3rd November 2017. Once again it will be a fun event – it will be a challenge for regular golfers as well as the novices but should not be taken too seriously.
The previous two events have raised money for James two daughters Faith & Ellie as well as for his favourite charity the Cardiomyopathy Association. You will find a letter of thanks from the charity on this web site as well as some photographs from the girls trip to Disneyland Paris which was paid for from part of the funds raised from the golf days.
Teams for the 2017 event should consist of 4 players and the cost will be £200 per team. Entries can be made on the form provided on this web site and once received you will be sent an invoice with details of how to pay. You can also enter as an individual (£50 per player) and we will pair you up with other competitors for the day. The lady caddies are back with us again this year and you can hire their caddy services for £50. If you wish to hire a caddy you should let us know when your booking is confirmed – a draw to decide which caddy goes with which team will be made on the day
Golf will be played in teams of 4 with the best 2 Stableford scores to count on each hole played off individuals full handicap.
There will be a shotgun start at 10.00am and you are requested to register between 8.30am and 9.00am in the Sports Bar at Old Thorns. Tea and coffee and Bacon Baps will be provided to all golfers.
There will be a number of opportunities to spend your hard earned cash during the day including a 2’s competition at a cost of £5 with 50% of the pot being shared amongst all golfers with a gross 2 on their card. As a change from the last two years you will not be able to buy a “mulligan” nor will the men be able to play off the ladies tee. Instead penalties will apply if your drive ends up on the wrong fairway or if any shot ends in a water hazard (plenty of ponds at Old Thorns!!!). For each “aberration” you will be charged £5 – but with a maximum penalty of two of each per golfer.
Team prizes will be awarded for the first; second and third teams. The winning team will also receive a trophy which they will hold for one year and we hope they will come back in 2018 to defend their crown. The trophy has been designed using the head of the putter used by the late James Stephenson. Other prizes will be awarded on the day.
Golf is expected to be completed by 3.00pm and after a shower and a drink a meal of Homemade Pie and Chips will be served in the Sports bar at 4.30pm. Dress for the meal will be smart casual.
During the meal we will be holding a “sign a £10 note” competition and this will be followed by an Auction with many exciting items to bid for
Finally a limited number of Buggies will be available for hire and details will be provided once your booking has been confirmed.
Look out for other surprises on the day – we want to make this a day for everybody to enjoy. Hope to see you at Old Thorns on 3rd November.
